Estate Planning / Family Meetings

Estate planning is for everyone, not just the wealthy. A simple will, Powers of Attorney for healthcare and property, and a living will can be crucial tools for you and your family to enact your wishes, and they must be in place before they are needed. If you don't make an estate plan, the state's estate plan is the default and it will be carried out through probate, increasing the costs and decreasing the amount that goes to your loved ones. We can review your current estate plan and evaluate together what needs to be addressed.

Our Estate Planning process:

  • Introduction to estate planning documents – Trusts, Wills, Powers of Attorney
  • Assistance outlining estate planning wishes
  • General estate planning and gifting strategies
  • Estate tax planning overview
  • Referral to firms to draft estate planning documents for our clients
  • Implementation of the plan (updating beneficiaries, funding trusts, etc.)

Family Meetings can be an important part of the estate planning process. Whether you want your children, family, or executor to know every specific detail, or simply have a high level overview of your wishes and a familiarity with the professionals you trust, this meeting is an opportunity for you to express your wishes to those who will either need to enact those wishes or be affected by them. Sometimes the opportunity to explain your reasoning can be the difference between an amicable distribution of assets to your heirs and the lawsuits you see in the news of families driven apart by disputes. We can help facilitate a meeting covering the scope and intent you desire.
